College: College is an instrumental stage of life when students make decisions that will determine how they will live for the next 50 years of their lives and who or what they will live for. There is a lot of competition for their attention, but more importantly for their minds and hearts. As they search for significance and security though prestige, wealth, knowledge and relationships, we hope to share with students about the only One who satisfies. We want to give them the opportunity to be in an eternal relationship with the living God and partake in building His Kingdom.
San Francisco:
San Francisco is a complex city, rich in culture, beauty, politics, technology, influence & generosity.
However, it can also be a very difficult place to follow Jesus. Organized religion— especially Christianity— is often viewed through political terms and seen as closed-minded and judgmental.
There is also a lack of community & connection, as the average San Franciscan only stays for three years, and the hustle-and-bustle of urban life often squeezes out deeper relationships.
Poverty, gangs, homelessness & human-trafficking are both visible and invisible problems that haunt the streets of San Francisco.
The need for Jesus’ love, acceptance, and healing run deep in this city.
- 1-2% of SFSU students are Christian
- Half of college students in San Francisco have never attended a church
- Many campuses have no visible Christian ministry
- Only 15% of San Francisco City College’s 100,000 students complete an Associates Degree
- San Francisco is the least churched city in the nation
Our hope is to bring God's love, Kingdom, purpose, and healing to San Francisco and the world by reaching out to men & women as they make decisions that will shape & form the rest of their lives. We are intentional about sharing God's love in word & deed, and are working towards a vision where everyone in San Francisco would know someone who's life has been transformed by Jesus.
Currently, our focus is at San Francisco State University, and also have a growing presence at City College of San Francisco, and some art universities. When we started at SFSU just a few short years ago, our ministry was comprised of the two of us, and one faithful student whose life had been changed by Jesus. It
was largely a commuter campus, with no social life, community or
spiritual openness. Most of our students had no clear faith background,
and were experiencing addictions & financial & emotional
problems. Yet God started growing something new out of them.
Over
the past few years, God has changed our ministry into
something almost unrecognizable from what we saw with our one faithful
student 4 years ago, both in size and in depth. With a staff team of seven, and a flourishing group of students, we have been able to bring God's love to campus through small group discussion, Scripture study, prayer, creative outreach, and service in the community.
